Have you ever wondered about how Hermès makes it bags or its legendary silk scarves and what makes these and other products bearing its brand so pricey and valuable?  Have you ever wondered about the men and women behind the construction of these Hermès goods and how they are able to come up with exquisite designs and then execute these designs to perfection?  Well, if you have asked about these things in your head and if you happen to be in London next week, then you have a way of finding out the answer!

 

How?

 

The French luxury brand is bringing a special team of craftspeople to London who will demonstrate their bag-making skills in a free public exhibition.  These artisans will show people the handcrafting expertise that comes with creating the brand’s famous Birkin bags and its other iconic products, too. 

 

Not only will you be able to get a glimpse of how a Hermès workshop looks like, see how prints and designs beautifully evolve behind the scenes, and witness the creative masters as they weave magic into the brand’s well-known handbags, silk scarves, watches, and even fine jewelry, but you will also have the opportunity to interact with them and ask them relevant questions.

 

The exhibit, called 'Festival des Métiers,' is traveling from Beijing and Shenyang in China and is making a London stop for only a week.  It will take place from May 21 to 27, 2013, at the Saatchi Gallery, on King’s Road in Chelsea, London.   After London, its next stop will be the German city of Düsseldorf.

 

Festival des Métiers is presented in a contemporary set-up by world-renowned designer Paola Navone.  This exhibit aims to allow visitors to better understand the unique creative processes that come with creating these high-end and superior-quality goods.  

 

Festival des Métiers is open for everyone, so there should not be any excuse for Hermès lovers not to drop by the Saatchi Gallery!

 

However, for those who cannot make it to the Hermès exhibit, you will still have another chance to see what happens behind the scenes of other luxury brands.  The LVMH luxury group, which has brands Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Givenchy under its wings, will have its Journées Particulières events this year on June 15 to 16, wherein people will get to see these atéliers at Christian Dior in Paris, as well as visit the Hennessy cellars in Cognac.

Hermès has released a new handbag to add to the house's gorgeous Handbag collection this year called the Mini Berline. The Mini Berline is the smaller version of the Hermès Berline bag that debuted in fall 2011 that was seen as being similar to the Hermès Jypsiere shoulder bag with touches of the Hermès Kelly Handbag seen in the bags over the top closing flap and clasp. It is made from Swift calfskin leather and comes in six different Hermès colors (four of them are shown above.) 

The original Berline bag was made to resemble the bucket seats of sports and racing cars. This resemblance to racing cars goes along with Hermès' theme for their Spring/Summer 2013 campaign of The Sporting Life, making the Mini Berline fit right in to the campaign. The Mini Berline is featured in one of the images in the campaign and we loved the image so much we added it below! This bag can be worn off the shoulder and you can remove the strap and carry the bag as a clutch similar to the original Hermès Berline bag, but with this smaller version it can now be worn as a cross body bag. Fans of the luxury fashion house will find this more casual Hermès bag is perfect for shopping or for grabbing as you run out to do errands. We at the Hermès Purse Forum, just like most women, have an occasional sweet tooth craving. Unfortunately, it always seems to come during swimsuit season. *sigh* Well, looking at these gorgeous cakes won't cause us to gain calories, right? My! Look at that first image! We love this cake as it went all out for two huge Hermès lovers, Singaporean actress, Joanne Peh and famous hair stylist, David Gan. Joanne surprised David for his birthday with This gorgeous gem! Not only do we see a perfectly wrapped orange box with a ribbon, but also an Hermès boutique bag and the crowning jewel of this cake is the fairly new Hermès Leica camera surrounded by edible tissue paper! Who made this gorgeous cake? Muffins are Ugly Cupcakes, a self taught baker from Singapore. What a talent! Amazing! She did such an amazing job adding detail to the camera. It came out beautifully!

 

What, another masterpiece for David Gan?! Believe it or not, the whole reason Joanne Peh had a cake made of the Hermès Leica camera is because of the cake in the second image. Joanne had planned to get David a Birkin cake and even selected the color and details. However, when she spoke with the Chef, they mentioned that they had learned that Dr. Georgia Lee just presented David with this very Black Birkin cake at the surprise party that she had for David! This cake features a Black Hermès Birkin bag cake surrounded by a variety of cupcakes with Birkin bags, baseball caps and symbols. We found this beauty on Birkin Watcher. Could you imagine going to a party with this gorgeous dessert? Better yet, could you imagine eating your own personal bite-sized Birkin? What color would you choose? Would you stick to a classic Black or Orange or would you branch out to something a bit more unique? We have to say, David is a very lucky person to have such fabulous friends!

 

The third cake is a very romantic, beautiful cake! On the top of a Paris, Eiffel Tower Fondant cake, is a gorgeous pink Birkin Handbag with Gold Hardware, with a "Happy Birthday" ribbon that offers the finishing touch. (Seen on Faradyscake) We love the intricate detail on the stitching of this cake bag, and the hearts at the very base of this fantastic birthday cake. We have to ask though, would you dare put a birthday candle into a cake such as this? Where would you put it on this cake if you wanted a candle? Hopefully not on that Birkin!

 

In the bottom left corner, at a quick glance, this cake almost looks like the real deal. We love the detail in the scales, hardware, lock and key. The shine of this Birkin cake is exactly what you expect when looking at a shiny crocodile Birkin bag. This bag would of been fabulous on its own, however, it is finished off with a pearl necklace made of presumably fondant and a happy birthday sash at the base. The last cake we will feature today is a classic Hermès orange Birkin Handbag cake with Palladium Hardware.  This cake has a gorgeous eye catching color combination of orange, purple, green, pink and black. There's no question where the candles would go on this cake as there are three candles standing. (Huh, what a smart son or daughter! We are sure they only put one candle for every "decade" since their mother's birth. After all, one must never reveal a lady's true age!) The cake is framed by a gorgeous purple ribbon and roses.  (Seen at Cake Central) Can you imagine that this cake only gets better on the inside? This sponge cake is made with a strawberry and cream filling. The base is a chocolate cake with mocha filling. ...Maybe a one piece swimsuit wouldn't be so bad this summer? Hmm?

 

We're not entirely sure if we could bring ourselves to eat one of these pieces of art.. Could you? We would like to offer a tip for all the guys out there... The next time you want to surprise your love with an Hermès Handbag, how about presenting them with one of these gorgeous cakes first? Just when they think they are not getting their dream bag as a gift, pull their brand new Hermès Handbag out its hiding spot! Give them the bag of their dreams and let them eat it too!
